DIXIE!!!

Right, let me catch everyone up. I moved to St George, Utah and am going to Dixie State College. I work at Beehive Learning Academy which is soooo fun! And...I made the show choir, Raging Red!! I was so happy. And oh my goodness, when I auditioned, I was shaking from the performance high.

Other news: I auditioned for Baker's Wife and didn't make it. I'm not too terribly sad. I actually had a plan in my head that if I didn't make it I would do the Miss Dixie State College Pageant. Crazy, right?! Well, I'm doing it. My platform is childhood education. I was thinking this will help me actually do the fundraiser for the CAI that I've been planning on doing for forever. The more I prepare for it, the more I think that I am supposed to do it. Especially when my wonderful boss told me that BLA wants to sponsor me! For anyone who wants to come and support me, the pageant is on October 5 at Dixie State College. The exact location will be coming at a later date.

Last little bit: Since it is September 11th, I've decided to write a little something. Here it goes:

Do you remember where you were? Do you remember what you thought? Do you remember what you felt? For me, it comes back in odd memories. Of the last time I slept in my parents' bed from a nightmare. Of the thought that I would be like Molly from the American Girls series if we went to war. Of getting sick in class after watching the news. Of the grey sky as I went outside to escape from the disturbing images.

I also remember the next day talking about it in school. We then had to write in our journals about how we would feel if they started the draft again and our fathers, brothers, etc were called to war. Jeremy had made me mad that morning and I wrote how I wouldn't care if he was sent to war. Well, nearly 7 years later, he was. He joined the Army and was on tour in Afghanistan. The words I wrote came back to haunt me like my nightmare from the night before 9/11. Nobody has ever made me felt guilt before. Not once, until that day.

Bit of News

Wow. It has been quite some time since I've posted anything. Course, I don't think anybody actually reads this so...

First bit of news: Braces are still not off. They were supposed to be off in February. I'm kind of pissed about it.
Second: I'm auditioning for Secret Garden. Yes it is another community show, but try doing something more high up with braces. I'm hoping I'll get the part of Martha.
Third: I'm looking for a new job. Something that pays well. And that's just over the summer. Because that brings up the fourth bit of news, I'm moving. It's not going to be to Virginia like originally planned. I'm moving to St. George. For school. I'm going to Dixie. And I need to start saving up. It's kind of hard to save up when you're working in retail. I mean, I'm actually really liking my job. Except for the occasional crazy woman who comes in. I just need more money. If anybody knows of any good job openings, let me know.

September, October, November...

It has been forever since I've done a show. Well, at least for me. I haven't done anything since Once Upon A Mattress. It's slowly killing me. Unfortunately, I can't do a show until I find a new job. I work in retail and so I work in the evenings, plus I don't know my schedule until about a week before hand. Yah, it's annoying.

And I have a little question, when am I going to be in a show that doesn't piss me off?! Yah, Once Upon a Mattress pissed me off. It was because of Winnifred. The girl who plays her is a dear friend of mine, but let's be honest, she can't act! I bet she would be decent if it was a more dramatic show, but she is not a comedic actress. And she's a high soprano, not an alto belt. She doesn't even know how to belt! So as a result, the songs she sang were not good at all.

But the thing that really erks me the most is I'm an alto belt and a comedic actress!!!!!! Why didn't I get the role? I had people coming up to me after the show saying I stole it because I was so funny. They said they weren't even paying attention to Winnifred when I was on stage! What now Mr. Director?!

Brides Finished Product Part 2

Here's part two. I decided not to post pictures of the Egyptian bride. So I brought the unfinished costume for her to try it on and then I had to leave. I left it there because I was planning on bringing all my stuff the next day and then finishing it at school. Well I came to school the next day and her costume wasn't there. I found out she took it home and had her mom fix it. I was pissed. She brought it back and it was ridiculous. It was the typical halloween costume version of Egyptian costumes, which frankly, made her look fat. So I refuse to associate myself with that costume.

We got bored backstage. He dies pretty quickly so he didn't go onstage until curtain call.

Here are all five of the brides. The Aztec bride didn't stay and get her picture taken so you just get to see it right here. You also get to see the bottom of the greek costume.

And the best part. The plunging back. I decided not to do sleeves. It looked better without them. So you know when you get clothing soaked with sea water and then they dry, they're covered with salt in a weird pattern, especially if you only get the bottom wet. Well that's what it looked like. You know if the salt was blue.

Brides Finished Product Part 1

Sorry it took me so long to post these. Things became hectic and then my computer started being retarded. Okay. I will be doing this in two parts because I can only upload so many pictures at a time.

The gorgeous Traditional bride. It's difficult to see the weird cape thing, but it's cool.

I added the necklace thing last minute cause the outift needed something more. I love the top, hated the skirt.

Dracula's Finished!!!

So it's closing night and I just finished doing a hair for a couple of people. I ended up getting my money a week before opening so I was sewing like crazy, either staying up till 3 in the morning sewing or staying up till 3 in the morning lying in my bed worrying about costumes. So, if you haven't figured it out, taking pictures of construction was the least of my worries. They did turn out beautifully though.

I'll be posting pictures probably sometime tomorrow or at least in the next week. It could take a bit cause my show Once Upon A Mattress opens on Friday and graduation is on Wednesday (Woohoo!). But I will try to get them up as soon as possible.

Bride One's costume (Traditional) Part 1

I've started!!! Here we go!


I decided to use a pattern instead of making my own, since I already had this and it's exactly what I want.

I decided to use this really awesome fabric I have lying around as a contrast on the front panel. I found out it sucks to sew with this fabric.

This is the bodice. Sort of. I still need to do boning, lining, and grommets. I decided not to do side lacings.

Me attempting to put the zipper foot on my sewing machine. I had never done it before. It was extremely confusing as you can see by the expression on my face.

This is the awesome fabric. I have tons of it and I'm thinking I'm going to use some of it for the skirt. As I was taking this picture, I realized what the fabric reminds me of. The lining in coffins. Kind of cool how I'm using it to make a costume for a vampire, huh?
